Washington State Community College is committed to providing an environment that emphasizes the dignity and worth of every member of its community and that is free from harassment and discrimination. Such an environment is necessary to a healthy learning, working, and living atmosphere because discrimination and harassment undermine human dignity and the positive connection among all people at the College.

Consistent with state and federal law, and College procedures and guidelines adopted by the College's President, the College prohibits acts of discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, stalking, and retaliation that is based upon race, color, religion, national origin, creed, service in the uniformed services (as defined in state and federal law), veteran status, sex, age, political ideas, marital or family status, pregnancy, physical or mental disability, genetic information, gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation.

Title IX

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex requiring schools to take immediate action to end all forms of sex-based discrimination, prevent its recurrence and remedy its effects.

Discrimination includes harassment, gender-based violence, bullying, intimidation, retaliation
On the basis of sex – sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation or perceived failure to conform to stereotypical notions of masculinity or femininity

Sex-based discrimination is an umbrella term that includes, but is not limited to:

  • Sexual harassment (quid pro quo and hostile environment);
  • sexual assault
  • domestic, intimate partner and dating violence;
  • gender-based stalking
  • and gender-based electronic bullying

Anyone wishing to make a report relating to sex-based discrimination may do so by contacting the Title IX Coordinator, Barbi Cheadle or the Title IX Deputy Coordinator, Kenneth Weppler who are trained in Title IX and WSCC's protocols for addressing and remedying acts of discrimination on the basis of sex.
