MARIETTA, Ohio (September 18, 2014) – This Fall Semester, Washington State Community College (WSCC) welcomed several new AmeriCorps college guides to assist in different divisions on campus and recently celebrated their 20th anniversary."This is the fifth year that the AmeriCorps College Guides have served on WSCC's campus. These recent college graduates assist our college by providing extra contact and face-to-face time with students and potential students. They promote educational awareness, college access, and help current students succeed, in addition to being role models for civic participation through Service Projects like the Day of Remembrance, throughout the year. In return for their service, they get a small stipend, an educational award, and valuable life experiences and career development that helps them move to the next stage in their lives, which often includes graduate school or a career in higher education," said David Scheimann, Director of Retention, Completion & The Center for Student Success at WSCC.
