Subject: Spring Semester 2015 – Week Two

The Spring Semester seems to be off to a good start. We registered 100% of our credit hour goal, and reached 95% of our head count goal. The head count held even from fall to spring. We have yet to enroll for the Second Eight Week Session, and overall we are doing relatively well with 1,578 students.

The WSCC Board of Trustees met January 26 and heard the enrollment report as well as an update on our IT initiatives. The Board also approved the hiring of three new faculty, and elected Mr. John Lehman as chair, and Mr. Randy Barengo as vice-chair for 2015. I am certain both individuals will provide the support and leadership we need for continued success.

By now, no doubt you have seen the new edition of the My.WSCC Portal that was installed yesterday. After logging into the My.WSCC portal you'll find convenient links to the most used applications around campus. Below the attached screenshot, I have outlined the buttons and given a brief description in case you are unfamiliar with the application.

Subject: Spring Semester 2015 - In-Service Week

It has been energizing to have the increased activity of faculty on campus.  That, along with a significant level of students registering has added to the urgency of a coming semester.  Fortunately, our enrollment is at a good level, and will very likely reach projections.

The week included several faculty meetings, a college wide faculty and staff meeting, new student orientation sessions, presentations by architecture firms for the Commons renovation, orientation of new faculty, the Faculty Senate meeting, Google training, and the Foundation Executive Committee meeting.  I also met with our Board chair and vice-chair, and a Board sub-committee for discussion on overall board structure and operation.  Truly, it was an active and productive week in preparation for the first day of classes.

JD-WSCCcoachderryThe WSCC Bucks began their season in December with an exhibition game against Kent State – Tuscarawas. Head Coach Josh Derry saw the game as the perfect opportunity for his team to get their feet wet. The local community and WSCC community will have the opportunity to see the Bucks play on Sunday, January 18th against the OSU JV team at Parkersburg High School, which is one of three home venues the Bucks host at this season. Coach Derry looks forward to building a tradition, building a winning team that is recognized by the school and the community. The players are recruited from area high schools, and the team relies on donations and fundraising to provide uniforms, travel funds, officiating funds, and facility rental. Anyone can donate and support the WSCC Bucks! Donations can be made through the WSCC Foundation. Make sure to come out and support our Men's Basketball Team! See the following schedule for games and venues.
